The Kai Bar Stool Adjustable was created by Shin Azumi for the Italian label la palma.

Romano and Dario Marcato launched la palma in the late 70s. The label collaborates with talented designers from around the world on its elegant and versatile furniture. Japanese-born Shin Azumi studied at the Royal College of Art in London and, after graduating, opened his own design studio in the city. His work is exhibited in museum collections and he has won many prizes including the V & A Homes and Gardens Classic Design Award.

Azumi used Japanese paper folding as the inspiration for his Kai Bar Stool Adjustable. The bar stool has a design featuring an unconventional curvature to the lacquered plywood seat and backrest. These mould comfortably to the sitter’s body. The column rotates through 360° and is made from sandblasted stainless steel with a linen fabric pattern finish. The shape of the footrest attached to the column balances the dynamics of the seat. The dimensions of the Kai Bar Stool Adjustable are 48 x 82 x 55 cm. A gas pressure spring operates at the touch of a lever and adjusts the height of the stool from 53cm to 79cm.
